Twinly ("the app", "we") is an iOS app for taking dual-camera photos and voice memos on your own phone. This page describes exactly what data the app touches.

The short version

Twinly has no server, no backend, no cloud and no account. Photos taken with the Camera tab are saved to your own iOS Photos library. Voice memos are saved into the app's Documents folder on your device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. We do not see, store or process anything you create.

What Twinly does NOT collect

• No account, no sign-in, no email, no phone number.
• No analytics, no usage telemetry, no advertising SDKs.
• No location is collected by us. Geotag is off by default and, when you turn it on, the location is written only into your own photo, on your device (see below).
• No address book, no contacts, no calendar.
• No third-party trackers or fingerprinting.

Camera

When you tap the shutter in the Camera tab, Twinly captures one photo from the back camera and one photo from the front camera and writes both into your iOS Photos library through the standard PhotoKit API. The app requests "Add Only" permission so it can save the new photos without being able to read your existing ones.

While the Camera tab is open, both lenses are active and the small yellow DUAL indicator in the corner is always visible to make that clear. iOS itself shows a green camera dot in the status bar the entire time. We do not upload preview frames or photos anywhere.

Microphone

The Recorder tab uses the microphone only while you have tapped the red record button. iOS shows the orange microphone dot in the status bar for the entire duration of the recording; this dot is a system-level indicator that no app can hide. Recordings are written as AAC .m4a files into the app's local Documents/Recordings folder. They are not uploaded.

Background audio

Twinly declares the audio background mode so that a recording you started intentionally continues if you switch to another app or lock the screen. The orange microphone indicator stays visible the whole time. You can stop the recording from the app at any moment.

Location (optional Geotag)

Geotag is turned off by default. If you turn it on in Camera settings, Twinly asks iOS for your location while you use the app and embeds it into the metadata of the photos you capture, exactly like the stock Camera app. That location lives inside your own photo in your Photos library. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, because the app has no server. Leave Geotag off and no location is ever requested.

Speech recognition (optional)

If you ask Twinly to transcribe one of your voice memos, the audio is passed to Apple's on-device Speech framework to turn it into text. This happens only when you tap to transcribe a specific recording. Twinly does not run a server and stores no transcript anywhere outside your device. Apple's handling of speech recognition is governed by Apple's own privacy terms.

Shutter sound

Twinly holds an active audio session to suppress the system camera shutter sound where iOS allows it. In Japan and Korea, iOS enforces the shutter sound regardless of any app setting; the sound will play. In other regions, putting the phone on silent (the side switch) is the most reliable way to ensure no sound on capture.

Volume button trigger

If enabled in Camera settings, three quick presses of the volume up or down button fire the shutter while the Camera tab is open. iOS does not deliver hardware volume events to apps running in the background, so this works only while the app is visible. The volume level is restored after the press so your audio output is unaffected.

Data on the device

The only data Twinly stores on the device is your voice memo files (in the app's Documents folder) and your local preferences (the two toggles in Camera settings and the first-launch disclaimer flag). Deleting the app removes all of this.

Children

The app collects no personal data, including from children.

Changes

If we update this policy, the date at the top will change.
